Duke Energy, one of the largest electric power-holding companies in the United States, supports diversity initiatives across its 35-county service area in Florida. Charitable giving and volunteerism are integral parts of Duke Energy’s commitment to the communities it serves. Through the Duke Energy Foundation, the company provides grant awards in education, workforce, environment and community impact. Last year, Duke Energy Florida logged over 15,000 hours of employee volunteer hours across 35 counties. The organization’s goal for 2018 is 20,000, with 12,791 hours already completed as of Aug. 15. This year, Duke Energy Florida introduced a special initiative, “31×31: Championing 31 Causes in May,” which reflected one project every day of the month. However, its employees doubled the goal and participated in 62 activities during the month. More than 975 Duke Energy Florida employees, retirees, families and friends donned their signature blue shirts and volunteered more than 5,000 hours across the state in May.
